Orienteering Team is one of many teams here in the Charger Battalion. Orienteering is a competitive sport in which participants find their way to various checkpoints across rough country with the aid of a map and compass, the winner being the one with the lowest elapsed time. Many of our cadets compete on this team.
Key Lessons
Cadets learn to read topographic map symbols, contour lines, and scales to identify land features. The activity combines running with navigating, improving cardiovascular fitness and forcing cadets to make quick decisions while physically tired. Participants must quickly determine the most efficient path between points to save time. Cadets must determine their location and direction under pressure, enhancing quick-thinking abilities
